Derek Tsang: Can AI-Edited Slides Reduce Trust and Teaching Effectiveness?

“This month, I had the privilege of presenting and attending several conferences around the world. An unfortunate trend I’ve noticed is that some presenters use slides that are AI – generated or AI – edited. In some cases, the presenter discloses this use (which is great!) but not always.

Sahebi et al. found that there is ‘an ‘AI penalty’, with communication involving AI being perceived as less trustworthy, less authentic, and less useful for knowledge uptake.’

Not only does AI use consume energy and water resources, it appears to impair teaching effectiveness.”
